No Country for Old Men
It’s a cold hearted world in some parts of west Texas and No Country for Old Men realistically captures all the mayhem, passion, and indifference for life that you could ever want to not experience. Based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, this thriller is definitely on the must see list.
Juno
I would have never thought an unplanned teen pregnancy could be the basis for a comedy, but the creators of Juno have done just that. Juno depicts a bright, offbeat girl’s efforts to do what is best for her unborn child and at the same time take some very large steps towards adulthood.
Into the Wild
Beautifully filmed and perfectly scripted, Into the Wild recreates the real life journey of Christopher McCandless as he traveled from Emory University graduate to nearly possession less, Alaskan wilderness explorer.
The Mist
What’s in the mist? A lot of strange things—none of them are friendly, and all seem to have an appetite for anything organic. Based on a Steven King novella, The Mist is a great little horror story that also explores what happens when group behavior breaks down during a crisis. Although a bit predictable, the unsettling ending is a frank reminder to never give up hope.
I am legend
Based on Richard Matheson's early 50s classic science fiction novel of the same name, I Am Legend hit the screen for the third time (previous versions were The Last Man on Earth and The Omega Man). In I Am Legend Will Smith plays virologist Robert Neville, who believes he is the sole, non-mutant survivor of a viral epidemic. Neville’s life is always at risk from vampire-like mutants as he races to find a serum that will reverse the condition of the mutated humans. As if that’s not enough, Neville’s sanity is challenged from the total absence of contact with other humans.
Bridge to Terabithia
In this beautiful, sad and inspiring movie two 12 year olds that are bit disconnected from mainstream preteen culture form a strong bond that enriches both of them. Together they create a fantasy land out of the local forest that allows them to escape their everyday problems into a rich world of both beauty and challenges.
Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers explores the frightening challenges a multicultural class of teenagers face from racism. The class is essentially a group of kids their school has written off as unteachable. However, their teacher refuses to accept that her students cannot be taught. To reach the kids she decides to allow them to write diaries about their lives. The diaries become a major outlet for the frustrations, fears, and despair the Freedom Writers are swelled with, and helps them regain hope for the future as well as a connection with each other.
Enchanted
In this great Disney fusion of animation and live action Giselle is thrown out of the fairy tale world Andalasia by the evil Queen Narissa, and finds herself in the less than perfect real world we all know as New York City. Although Giselle’s new world is an extreme challenge to her beliefs, she manages to make the best of her plight, but can she still live happily ever after?
Ratatouille
In a year that animated features about lovable penguins hit the screen, it was a Disney/Pixar movie about a rat that warmed everyone’s heart. Rémy is a rat that dreams of being a gourmet chef. When events land Rémy in Paris, the opportunity for him to fulfill his dreams presents itself in am offbeat way.
The Invisible
After being beat up and left for dead by a psycho girl and her gang, a bright high school senior finds himself in limbo with a short time to get help or die. The problem is he’s invisible to everyone except his disturbed who attacker can hear him.
